Redwood Forests
Camping with Bazil
08.06.2014 - 09.06.2014
Bazil was pleased to leave Gold Bluffs campground. I must admit, I was a wee bit tired of the wind and sand in my face but I was still glad I had found this spot.
We decided to try the "drive-through" experience.

Decided Not to Go for It

We Could Have Made It
We stopped in Eureka for a coffee shop break at Old Town Coffee. Had some good conversations with locals. Bazil was so glad to see a town again that he actually smiled and spoke audibly.

Eureka Plaza
We were directed to 2nd Street to a local music store where Bazil could have a drum practice session.

While he practiced, I sat there and read the local paper and discovered an "open studios" event was going on right around the corner on C Street.
After practice, Bazil and I headed up the stairs to see local artists at work in the 208 C Street studios. We had good discussions with several artists, but one artist, Augustus Clark, took a real shine to Bazil and gave him a painting of Jimi Hendrix.

A restaurant meal also put us in a good mood and ready for the last camping spot of this trip.

Along the way, Bazil had me pull over for an emergency pit stop. It was a good surprise, because we happened to be next to an amazing grove of redwoods. We explored a bit. The peace and grandeur of these forests can only be experienced and not described by someone with my limited skill.

Bazil Inside the Redwood

Amid the Redwoods
We camped at Albee Creek campground in the Humboldt State Park.
I was glad to find a spot to hang my hammock and did not have to put up/take down the tent for another night. The van bed only holds one person. Bazil took the tent the first night and the van the second night.
I finally was able to get a good campfire going. Unfortunately, the fire pit was a 3 foot deep steel drum and it was a little difficult to enjoy.
Double unfortunately, it was an even-numbered day. I couldn't even enjoy a beverage by the fire.

Finally a Decent Campfire
Bazil liked this campground because it had a loop that was good for skate boarding and he spent a good deal of time sketching by the lantern and fire light.

I Call Hammock
I was the only person awake the next morning when a big tom turkey strutted through the campground gobbling as the local alarm clock. Bazil later found the only other wildlife we saw here.

Wildlife
Forgot to mention that we saw five elk at Gold Bluffs campground.

At the Giant Tree
I took one last walk while Bazil read and then, even I, decided "enough trees and coast. " We headed to San Francisco.
